Laboratory Safety |
|
OSHA requires this course for all employees engaged in the laboratory use of hazardous chemicals. Employers shall provide employees with information and training to help ensure they are apprised of the hazards of chemicals present in their work area. Injury to laboratory workers can result from carelessness, unfamiliarity with hazards of chemicals and equipment, or a lack of proper work practices. To help reduce these accidents, participants are required to be trained in the hazards of the chemicals they work with and methods to reduce exposures.
Course topics include site-specific information on chemical hazards and procedures for the safe handling of hazardous chemicals used in laboratories. Instructors integrate several key safety and compliance topics of your organization’s written Chemical Hygiene Plan. Physical and health hazards such as flammable liquids, reactives, corrosives, toxins, carcinogens, explosives, compressed gas cylinders, and cryogenic liquids will be covered. Other topics include personal protective equipment (PPE), lab safety equipment, and the proper ways to safely handle and clean up small chemical spills in the workplace. |
